Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana is now partnering with the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center (BRCIC) to offer support to parents through KIDLINE. Special thanks to the Baton Rouge Area Foundation for funding this partnership! We are now looking for passionate volunteers to join the lines.
After completing the Crisis Intervention Services training, KIDLINE volunteers will complete an additional 3-6 hour course and provide support to Louisiana parents and children through KIDLINE. KIDLINE (1-800-CHILDREN), is a telephone helpline providing parenting information, phone counseling, referrals to community resources, help for victims of child abuse, and information on Louisiana's Safe Haven law. To volunteer, submit an application packet to BRCIC and enroll in the next crisis line training. Applications are due by January 22, 2015.
At BRCIC, volunteer crisis counselors help those in the community who are searching for emotional support and may be in crisis. These services include The PHONE, a 24 hour crisis telephone line, and Crisis Chat, an online instant messaging program. The main qualifications we are looking for in our volunteers include the ability to be caring, empathetic and nonjudgmental.
Crisis Intervention Services training:
* involves active listening, crisis theory and intervention, suicide and violence assessment and community resources
* occurs 3 times a year
* approximately 60 hours
* volunteer commitment of 12 hours a month for 9 months or 18 hours a month for 6 months.
